Witness the Majesty: Explore Balinese Art and Culture at Garuda Wisnu Kencana Guide
Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park is a spectacular open-air park located in Jimbaran, Bali. It's home to the colossal Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, one of the tallest statues in the world, depicting the Hindu god Vishnu riding the mythical Garuda bird. Beyond the statue, GWK offers a diverse range of cultural performances, exhibitions, and recreational activities, making it a popular destination for tourists seeking a blend of art, culture, and entertainment. The idea for the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue and cultural park originated in the 1990s, with the vision of creating a landmark that would showcase Balinese art and culture to the world. The statue was designed by renowned Balinese artist Nyoman Nuarta, and its construction took over 28 years to complete. The park officially opened to the public in 2018, after the statue was finally completed and installed. The statue is made of copper, brass, and steel, and it stands at a height of 121 meters (397 feet), making it taller than the Statue of Liberty. At GWK Cultural Park, visitors can marvel at the towering Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, explore the park's various plazas and gardens, and enjoy a variety of cultural performances. You can witness traditional Balinese dances, music performances, and theatrical shows, showcasing the island's rich artistic heritage. The park also features art galleries, exhibitions, and a souvenir shop where you can purchase local handicrafts and artwork. For a unique dining experience, try the Jendela Bali restaurant, which offers stunning views of the statue and the surrounding landscape, serving Indonesian and international cuisine.
